Biography
Now based in Los Angeles, the BLSSM is a singer and songwriter born in Sydney whose music blends moody alt-rock echoes from the 1990s with hip-hop rhythms and melodic pop hooks. Their breakthrough arrived via the single “Hardcore Happy,” which anchored the 2021 debut EP 97 Blossom; a second EP, Pure Energy, arrived the following year.
Lily Lizotte, offspring of the Australian blues-rock musician Mark Lizotte (better known as Diesel), grew up surrounded by music and eventually departed Sydney for Brooklyn before settling in Los Angeles. Performing as the BLSSM, they cultivated a style grounded in gritty, organic alt-rock while folding in elements of rap, electronic production, acoustic textures, and lo-fi bedroom pop. Following the 2020 release of the dreamy track “Kill My Mind,” they gained notice with the mid-tempo “Hardcore Happy,” the focal point of 97 Blossom. That project, issued on Video Store—the label run by Brockhampton—featured contributions from members of that collective. Shortly afterward, Fueled by Ramen signed the BLSSM and put out Pure Energy in 2022.
