Biography
Gospel, a post-hardcore outfit based in New York City, extend the experimental frontier of a style already viewed as rock’s most progressive edge. Adam Dooling, who supplies vocals and guitar after leaving art school, first united with bassist Sean Miller and drummer Vincent Roseboom in the earlier group Helen of Troy. The compositions they developed by 2003 had moved into art-rock territory, blending math metal, ambient textures, and space rock, which required the addition of Jon Pastir on guitar and keyboards to realize the material during rehearsals and live shows. That expansion prompted the band’s rechristening as Gospel, and in 2005 they issued their debut full-length, mysteriously titled The Moon Is a Dead World. Toward the end of the following year the members declared their dissolution, offering no explanation for the decision.
