Biography
Born Jesse Houk in Amsterdam, Scumfrog built a career as a progressive house producer and remixer, placing three of his tracks simultaneously inside the Billboard club chart’s Top Ten. After repeated DJ appearances throughout the Netherlands, he relocated to New York City in 1997 and cut his first single, “The Watersong.” By 2000 he was on the road with superstar DJ Roger Sanchez as his cover of the Rolling Stones’ “We Love You” reached number one on the U.K. charts. Remixes for Annie Lennox, Missy Elliot, and Kylie Minogue soon followed, yet the greatest notice came from his treatment of David Bowie’s “Loving the Alien.” In 2003 Effin Records assembled twenty of Houk’s productions and remixes on the double CD Extended Engagement while BBC Radio broadcast Scumfrog’s first Essential Mix.
