Biography
In 1972 vocalist Ramon McGuire established the group that would become Trooper, initially performing under the names Applejack and later Winters Green. Drummer Tommy Stewart and bassist Harry Kalinsky joined the lineup by 1974. Randy Bachman caught one of their performances and placed the band on his Legend imprint, resulting in the 1975 single “Baby Woncha Please Come Home.” That same year Trooper issued its self-titled debut album, which was succeeded by Two for the Show in 1976. Shortly afterward Frank Ludwig took over piano duties while Doni Underhill replaced Kalinsky on bass. Ludwig performed on the albums Knock ’Em Dead Kid (1977), Thick as Thieves (1978), Flying Colors (1979), and Hot Shots (1979) before Rob Deans assumed his role. The final Warner Music releases, The Last of the Gypsies (1989) and Ten (1991), preceded a period of continued activity that persists to the present.
