Biography
UK pop outfit Ultimate Kaos consists of Haydon Eshun (b. c.1982, England), Ryan Elliot (b. c.1982, England), Jomo Baxter (b. c.1979, England), Nicky Grant (b. c.1977, England) and Jayde Delpratt Spence (b. c.1981, England). Grant and Baxter first connected while studying at London’s Battersea Dance Workshop, where they assembled the rest of the lineup and shaped an upbeat blend of R&B and pop dance. Their opening release, ‘Some Girls’, climbed to number 9 on the UK charts in October 1994 and moved more than 200,000 units. An album titled Kaos soon followed, along with the additional chart entry ‘Right Here’. Heavy promotional duties included appearances on the Coca-Cola roadshow circuit, and the act also secured a recording agreement with Motown Records in the United States. Later singles could not match the impact of their debut, prompting Polydor to end the relationship. French stations, however, embraced the group’s take on LeVert’s ‘Casanova’, and with support from Sony France the track surged to number 4. Comparable results appeared across several other European territories, though the single managed only number 29 in the UK by July 1998.
