Biography
DJ Chris Cowie performs under multiple monikers, among them X Cabs, Vegas Soul, and DeNiro, while also releasing material under his given name. X Cabs first appeared in the mid-'90s and opened its catalog with several singles, beginning with the track “Neuro,” which debuted on Cowie’s own Hook Records imprint. A subsequent pressing on the Positiva label turned the single into a cult favorite that moved close to 80,000 units. Live performances under the X Cabs banner stood out for their intensity because Cowie avoided pre-programmed sequences, instead triggering loops, percussion, and samples spontaneously and pledging never to duplicate any set. Two albums followed: Chemistry arrived in 1998, and after several years away from the format Exposure, Vol. 1 surfaced in 2002, both promoted through concerts staged across numerous countries.
