Hailing from Puerto Rico, Yazaira works as a Latin pop singer and songwriter who captured first place on the debut season of Univision’s reality series Va Por Ti in 2014. Listeners recognize her instantly through a rich, dynamic alto that delivers genuine vocal power. During her upbringing on the island she endured frequent bullying, harassment, and teasing tied to her weight, an ordeal that sparked a crisis of self-confidence. She first turned to singing simply to console herself, performing in church as well as at parties and weddings; those experiences gradually restored her assurance and prompted her to enter local contests. She appeared as a contestant on Latin Idol, I Sing, and additional programs yet never reached the finals, typically because visible nervousness undermined her stage presence. At her husband’s urging she auditioned for Va Por Ti while the show was being filmed in Mexico. Galilea Montijo hosted that season, whose original panel consisted of Alejandra Guzmán, Dulce María, and Jencarlos Canela. Yazaira earned a spot, advanced through preliminary rounds and the entire 13-episode run, and ultimately prevailed over Fernando Corona; guest judges Los Tigres del Norte joined the season finale. Judges and audience together awarded the victory a recording contract with Warner Brothers Latin. Her self-titled debut album, issued in early 2015, included nine covers and three originals and registered on several Latin album charts the following week.
