Yolanda Be Cool, the Australian electronic dance music duo, reached the summit of global charts in 2010 with their house single "We No Speak Americano." Their high-energy approach, linking the sounds of Basement Jaxx to those of Duck Sauce, appeared on their first album, Ladies & Mentalmen, issued in 2012. Sylvester Martinez and Johnson Peterson make up the Sydney-based pair, who maintain close ties to producer DCUP, born Duncan MacLennan. They entered the commercial market with the Afro Nuts EP on the Australian independent imprint Sweat It Out in 2009. The following year they joined DCUP for the house cut "We No Speak Americano," built around samples from the 1956 recording "Tu Vuò Fà l'Americano" by Italian singer/songwriter Renato Carosone. After its initial Sweat It Out release and subsequent licensing to other labels worldwide, the track became a major summer hit in 2010, claiming the top spot in more than a dozen countries, most notably across Europe. Building on that multi-platinum success, the duo delivered their debut full-length, Ladies & Mentalmen (Sweat It Out/Dim Mak), in late 2012. The set brought in guest vocalists such as Betty Wright and Crystal Waters, plus a cover of Ace of Base's "All That She Wants." After touring the album, they scored another Australian platinum hit with the DCUP collaboration "Sugar Man." Their second album, Je Suis Music, surfaced in 2016, followed by the 2018 Chilimanjaro EP recorded with Cut Snake. They opened 2019 with the single "Dance and Chant," which layers horns and disco flair.
