Zyklon

Emerging from Norwegian black metal legends Emperor, Zyklon originated when guitarist and bassist Zamoth—known as Samoth within Emperor—sought to highlight the more contemporary and ferocious facets of that group’s approach. Relative to Emperor, the band favors a sharper, less atmospheric or grandiose tone, prompting its members to embrace the expansive extreme metal label over black metal when characterizing their music. They further distanced themselves from Zyklon-B, an earlier Emperor-related project. Although formed in 1998, Zyklon’s definitive lineup coalesced only in 2000 once drummer Trym, also of Emperor, and bassist/lead guitarist Destructhor from Myrkskog completed the roster. Their debut album, World of Worms, appeared on Candlelight Records in 2001 with Daemon of Limbonic Art supplying lead vocals. Bard “Faust” Eithun, a former Emperor drummer, authored every lyric on World of Worms, reinforcing the connection to that band.
