Based in Wichita, Kansas, the Christian alt-rock outfit Abandon Kansas—a name devised as a pun on “a band in Kansas”—put out their self-titled debut EP on their own in 2005. Over the next several years the trio, anchored by Jeremy Spring, Brian Scheideman, and Nick Patrick, refined their sound through regional performances while independently releasing two further EPs, Exactly What We Needed and Minutes, along with the warmly received full-length You Build a Wall, I'll Build a Ladder. In 2009 the group signed with tobyMac’s Gotee Records, which then issued the EPs We’re All Going Somewhere in 2009 and a second self-titled set in 2011, as well as the band’s sophomore album Ad Astra per Aspera that same year. During 2014 Abandon Kansas aligned with post-hardcore unit Emery’s BC Music imprint and delivered their third long-player, Alligator, the year after.
