Biography
Joel Ford operates under the solo alias Airbird as a Brooklyn-rooted indie electronic musician whose prior joint ventures encompass Tigercity, the Games/Ford & Lopatin pairing alongside Oneohtrix Point Never's Daniel Lopatin, and the Ejecta/Young Ejecta project. Airbird's output navigates between luminous, introspective downtempo synth-pop passages and pulsating, vivid dance rhythms—frequently within a single track—supported by intricate production details and his signature electronically treated falsetto. The project's introduction arrived in 2011 via a split cassette shared with Megafortress together with the "City vs. Mountains" 12" single issued on Software, Daniel Lopatin's imprint. The Trust EP followed on the same label in 2012. Subsequent activity included 2013 remixes for Chrome Canyon and Korallreven, after which Airbird partnered with Napolian (Ian Evans), the experimental hip-hop producer then signed to Software. Their initial joint effort surfaced as the 2013 single "In the Zone," with the full-length album Mr. Foolish released on Cascine in 2015.
