Instead of chasing a future as a competitive swimming champion, Albert Plá abandoned the sport, took up guitar, and turned to songwriting. Following his victory at a songwriters festival, he cut his debut Basque-language album Ho Sento Molt in 1989. BMG issued the artist’s first Castilian record, No Solo De Rumba Vive El Hombre, two years later in 1992. Albert Plá simultaneously moved into acting, joining Marisol Galdón in the stage production Curacuero, appearing in the film Airbag, and supplying key material for the soundtracks of El Dia De la Bestia and Pedro Almodóvar’s Carne Trémula. After authorities rejected the album Veintegenarios over a contentious track depicting a liaison with a terrorist, the live set Veintegenarios en Alburquerque appeared in 1997.
