Biography
Alejandro Maldonado rose to prominence as the leading representative of yoga among Spanish speakers worldwide, thanks to his series of instructional DVDs along with his involvement in contemplative, meditation-focused recordings released under his name. His initial engagement with yoga took place in New York City, yet he completed his formal training and earned teaching credentials while based in Miami. There, under the guidance of Wayne Krasnner at the Miami Yoga Center, he developed mastery of Ashtanga Yoga methods that would anchor his professional path. After returning to New York, he collaborated with Sharon Gannon and David Life, the founders of the Jivamukti Yoga Center of New York City, and acquired his earliest teaching experience in that setting. His career reached a pivotal juncture during journeys to India that allowed him to explore the discipline at its source. While in Katmandu, Nepal, he delved into Buddhist meditation practices alongside resident Tibetan monks. That period prompted him to weave Buddhist principles into his instructional approach, refining his identity as a teacher and helping cultivate the distinctive perspective that propelled his renown. He went on to instruct and deepen his practice at yoga centers throughout Europe, with visits to Madrid, Paris, and London among the stops. After these global travels, Maldonado established his base in Mexico, where he offered classes and focused on serving high-profile clients such as Paulina Rubio and Alejandra Guzman. His DVD/CD projects Yoga and Pausa, which incorporate sections on both physical practice and philosophical reflection, achieved strong sales across Latin America.
