Born on January 29, 1981, in Vitoria, Spanish Latin pop artist Alex Ubago moved with his family to San Sebastian at age four, as the couple’s only child. At fifteen he composed his first song purely for creative pleasure. To judge how his material sounded, he trained his own voice without formal instruction. With no initial plans for a professional path, he later approached his cousin David, a musician who maintained a home studio, once several pieces were ready. The goal was to capture a selection of tracks as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. Those informal recordings soon reached manager Inigio Argomaniz, who circulated them among industry contacts. Encouraged to develop more material, Ubago accumulated enough songs for a formal presentation. The new batch landed with DRO Atlantic artistic director Alfonso Perez. Contracts were executed in October 2000. Three years afterward Que Pides Tu appeared, followed by the 2004 release Fantasia o Realidad, which brought him worldwide acclaim. The album earned gold and platinum certifications on the strength of its sales throughout Spain, Latin America, and the United States. In 2006 Ubago issued Aviones de Cristal, which contained “Viajar Contigo,” one of his numerous Billboard chart successes. He assembled the musical project Alex, Jorge y Lena in 2010 with Cuban singer Lena and Jorge Villamizar. Their first single, “Estar Contigo,” arrived the following year.
