In 1989, Alberto Comesaña, then fronting the pop/rock outfit Semen Up, first encountered solo artist Cris, the stage name used by Cristina del Valle. The pair relocated to Madrid that year and adopted the moniker Amistades Peligrosas. Aligning with producer Luis Carlos Esteban, they secured a deal with EMI in 1990. Their introductory full-length, Relatos De Una Intriga, appeared in June 1991 and spotlighted the hit single "Estoy Por Tí." December 1993 brought La Ultima Tentación, which earned platinum certification across Spain and Latin America while "Me Haces Tanto Bien" was named Song of the Year. By March 1996, La Profecía revealed del Valle and Comesaña shifting toward weightier lyrics and a reduced pop emphasis. Nueva Era, issued in 1997, marked their final studio effort. Amistades Peligrosas formally dissolved following a July 1998 press conference.
