Despite its feminine name, Amy Meredith comprises an energetic pop/rock quintet of young musicians drawn from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire. Christian Lo Russo, the band’s lead singer, chief songwriter, and occasional keyboardist, assembled the group in 2006 after connecting with three fellow local players—guitarists Joel Chapman and Cam Laing plus bassist Wade Osborn—who shared his vision. Once drummer Kosta Theodosis joined, the lineup adopted the name Amy Meredith and began composing original material. Demos and a handful of early shows quickly attracted attention from major labels. Following showcase performances in the United States, the band signed with a Japanese imprint yet soon parted ways to issue its own EP in 2008 and refine its songwriting and musicianship. Tours alongside Silversun Pickups, the Bravery, and !!! paved the way for a contract with Sony Australia. The 2010 debut album Restless, buoyed by the singles “Lying” and “Pornstar” as well as support slots with Stereophonics and Cobra Starship, climbed into the Australian Top Ten and drew favorable notices from reviewers.
