Ariel Rot grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before moving to Spain and launching his work in “rock en español” by joining vocalist Alejo Stivel, drummer Manolo Iglesias, guitarist Julián Infante, and bassist Felipe Lipe in the band Tequila. That group delivered its first album, Matrícula de Honor, in 1978. The Spanish-Argentinian foursome ended its run in 1983 after releasing four records. Rot’s first solo effort, Debajo del Puente, appeared next and contained the hit singles “Debajo del Puente” and “Veneno.” Soon afterward, former Los Abuelos de la Nada musician Andrés Calamaro linked up with him to launch the band Los Rodríguez. The act rose to prominence across the Latin music world once it issued the successful album Sin Documentos. The gifted singer, guitarist, and producer resumed his solo career in 1997.
