Philadelphia outfit Big Nothing arrived on the scene in 2017 by issuing an indie-punk-inflected self-titled EP through Asian Man Records, channeling Superchunk’s alt-rock alongside the Get Up Kids’ emo sound. The quartet—Pat Graham (vocals, guitar), Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar), Liz Parsons (vocals, bass), and Chris Jordan (vocals, drums)—drew members from Spraynard, Crybaby, and Young Livers, uniting the punk and indie-pop leanings of their earlier groups with 1990s alt-rock and emo influences. After releasing the same EP on Asian Man that year, the band gained notice through live dates supporting Timeshares, Katie Ellen, and Swearin’. Once they assembled a full-length album, Big Nothing signed with Salinas Records for their debut; Chris appeared in May 2019 and the group immediately toured with labelmates Radiator Hospital.
