Biography
Bon Voyage first took shape in Aliso Viejo, California, when Jason Martin—already known for his work in Starflyer 69—joined forces with his wife Julie Martin, the onetime singer of Havalina, to launch the venture as a side project. Intent on shaping distinctive and absorbing takes on pop and alternative melodies, the pair drew from the approaches of My Bloody Valentine and Blondie while assembling their own collection of alternate pop compositions. The two entered the studio in 1998 to lay down their debut album, supported by bassist Travis, drummer Matt, and keyboardist Gene Eugene, who also handled production duties. Issued the same year, the self-titled album Bon Voyage showcased the duo’s striking sound and steadily expanding profile in the underground scene. The Right Amount followed in fall 2002.
