Biography
Australian country performer Brad Cox fuses 1990s-era rocking country with traces of that decade’s alternative rock while weaving in contemporary touches drawn from pop, modern R&B, and retro-soul, choices that keep his sound fresh and dynamic. Those wider explorations surfaced clearly on the 2020 album My Mind’s Projection and the 2023 follow-up Acres, both of which expanded his audience across the United States.
Born in 1995 in Jindabyne, New South Wales, Australia, Cox grew up as the child of two swimming coaches. He first picked up instruments during his teenage years and soon focused on country music. Once he finished high school he took a job on a cattle station in the Northern Territory, performing live shows after work. He later returned to Jindabyne to pursue songwriting full-time, resulting in his self-titled 2018 debut album. The project earned two Golden Guitar Award nominations after its lead single, “Too Drunk to Drive,” topped the KIX Country Radio Network chart. Professional songwriter Dan Isbell, known for his work with Luke Combs, was drawn to Cox’s material and collaborated on “Drinking Season,” the track that anchored My Mind’s Projection. That album entered the ARIA Charts at number 12 and marked Cox’s first release through Sony/ATV Nashville. The EP What’s Your Favourite Country Song? followed in 2021. For his third studio album Cox partnered with Nashville-based producer and songwriter Brandon Hood; the resulting 17-track Acres, issued in 2023, featured the hit singles “What Brought You Back” and “Single Life.”
