Nick Jamerson and Kris Bentley, who have known each other since elementary school, make up the country-folk duo Sundy Best, which originates from eastern Kentucky. Their sound merges country, Appalachian folk, bluegrass, rock, soul, and R&B into a stomping back-porch style anchored by Jamerson’s acoustic guitar, Bentley’s cajón (a sort of portable drum), and the duo’s impassioned vocal blend. The pair issued their first album, Door Without a Screen, independently in 2012 and later expanded their audience through strategic social-media outreach and compelling concerts. Once the track “Home” from that project entered heavy rotation on CMT, Sundy Best secured a multi-album agreement with Entertainment One and reissued Door Without a Screen with six extra songs in late summer 2013. Their next studio effort, Bring Up the Sun, surfaced in early 2014 and contained both reworked selections from the debut—including the signature “Home,” now titled “I Wanna Go Home”—and new songs written entirely in-house. The album reached number 11 on the Country Albums chart and number 14 on the Indie Albums listing. December 2014 brought Salvation City, which entered the Country Albums chart at number 22. In 2016 the duo documented their widely praised stage show on the concert album It’s So Good Live.
