Biography
Bria Jhane performs as a contemporary R&B vocalist devoted to polished ballads and slow jams. Echoes of Jazmine Sullivan and Keyshia Cole color her delivery. Entry into the VH1 series Signed delivered a major-label deal during 2017. Three debut singles that year opened the door to the EP What Is Love?, which surfaced in 2019.
A Houston native, she forged an early, intense bond with music and gravitated toward deeply soul-rooted R&B figures such as Jill Scott and Jazmine Sullivan. During high school a self-made recording of her singing between classes circulated on social media, drawing notice from VH1 producers who recruited her for the 2017 reality competition Signed. Her win on the program led to a contract with Radio Killa, the Republic-backed imprint headed by the-Dream, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer responsible for Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies.”
She promptly teamed with the-Dream and the equally celebrated Carlos “Los da Mystro” McKinney, resulting in the late-2017 atmospheric ballads “Over You,” “Fragile,” and “Text Back,” each spotlighting her mature voice. March 2019 brought What Is Love?, a five-song EP assembled in the same vein and written and produced chiefly by the-Dream and McKinney.
