From London, brothers Dan and Phil Brookes first turned their shared enthusiasm for raving and dance music toward studio work, laying down initial tracks as a pair. They forwarded several demos to the AIM inbox of Breakbeat Kaos, the label run by Adam F and Fresh, and the positive response led them to place their debut release, Someone, with Viper Recordings. Strengthened ties with Fresh soon brought further material to Breakbeat Kaos, where the 2006 12-inch “Hard Knocks” appeared. Maintaining a steady flow of output across both imprints, the pair issued numerous additional 12-inches, one of which—the 2008 single “Tear You Down”—brought wider recognition.

Sustained by their signature anthemic and soulful drum’n’bass sound, the brothers began shaping a full-length debut that surfaced in 2011 as the Brookes Brothers LP. Endorsement from radio figures such as Pete Tong and Zane Lowe helped enlarge their following, and they kept issuing 12-inch singles amid live commitments that included a residency at London’s Fabric. An exclusive Viper deal followed in 2013, prompting work on the next album. That project, Orange Lane, reached stores in 2017 and contained the single “Carry Me On” along with appearances by ShezArs, Charlotte Haining, Pierre Da Silva, and additional contributors.
