Biography
Born on March 21, 1973, in Beverly Hills, California, Damon Elliott—also performing under the name Buck 22—has built a multifaceted career as a writer, composer, recording engineer, producer, label owner, and occasional rapper. He is the son of pop singer icon Dionne Warwick and jazz drummer and actor Bill Elliott. Surrounded by studios from childhood, he transitioned directly into music-industry work, launching his production credits in 1996 alongside Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Comfortable across pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock, country, and gospel, he has collaborated with Britney Spears, Macy Gray, Mya, Deana Carter, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Gwen Stefani, Beyoncé, and Destiny's Child. After establishing Confidential Records, Elliott discovered, signed, and guided R&B artist Keyshia Cole as well as hip-hop’s Hopsin. His production of “Lady Marmalade” for the 2001 film Moulin Rouge earned a Grammy Award that year. He has also composed and produced theme music for the television programs Holly's World, Kendra on Top, and The Lylas. Later he created The Damon Elliott Music Group and secured distribution for the venture. Releasing as Buck 22, he issued the country hip-hop remake “Achy Breaky Heart 2,” a sequel to Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 line-dance hit; its video included a cameo by Larry King and referenced Cyrus’ daughter Miley Cyrus, generating widespread press coverage that was not uniformly favorable.
