Capella Grey, the singer, songwriter, and producer from the Bronx, first drew widespread attention with the 2021 release of his single “Gyalis.” He established his own imprint, Allepac the Family, under a joint-venture arrangement with Capitol, and before stepping forward as a lead artist he had already contributed writing and production work to King Combs and Rèign. On his initial pair of mixtapes he blended smooth R&B melodies with brisk rap cadences and contemporary dancehall rhythms. Following 2022 collaborations alongside Nija and Ty Dolla $ign, he issued two EPs, one of them titled HERE, damn., that paved the way for his first album. That project, the June 2024 full-length Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1, included guest appearances from French Montana and Young M.A among others.

Born Curtis Jackson II in New Rochelle, New York, Grey began performing and learning several instruments early in life. After spending part of his childhood in Danville, Connecticut, his family relocated to the Bronx, where he immersed himself in songwriting, performance, and studio production. His first notable behind-the-scenes credit arrived in 2018 with “Love You Better,” a track he wrote for King Combs and Chris Brown. He also assembled and produced the 4 Square Peace Project, spotlighting artists from his Mount Vernon area. After signing the R&B collective Rèign to Allepac the Family and guiding their recordings, he quickly dropped the two mixtapes Yeah Nah I'm Out and The QuaranTape Vibe 1.

The breakthrough of “Gyalis” placed Grey on the American, Canadian, and British charts, prompting Capitol to formalize its partnership with Allepac and release a remix featuring Popcaan and Chris Brown. Following the standalone single “Talk Nice,” he continued in 2022 with “Confujawn,” a duet with Nija, and “OT,” which featured Ty Dolla $ign. Over the ensuing months he unveiled the July EP HERE, damn. and the December holiday project Nah, It's Brick: A Holiday Vibe, then introduced the album cuts “How I Am” and “Baechester.” The completed 22-track Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1 arrived in June 2024 with additional appearances by Jacquees, Cash Cobain, and numerous others. A companion release, Vibe Responsibly: The Afties, followed in November.
