Miami-based DJ, producer, and label owner Danny Daze has steered clear of stylistic boxes across his output, issuing tracks shaped by Dutch electro, Detroit techno, and disco-house while delivering equally wide-ranging DJ sets. He first gained notice via the 2011 single “Your Everything,” an infectious collaboration with Louisahhh that prompted many observers to label him a house producer, yet later projects such as his 2013 partnership with Maceo Plex (under the name Jupiter Jazz) and the 2016 track “Swim” revealed a stronger pull toward dark, hard-driving techno and stark, sleazy electro. On more experimental, less dance-floor-oriented works like 2020’s Protocol 305 and 2022’s GT (with Jonny from Space), he explored his affinities for experimental electro and IDM.

Born Daniel Gomez in Miami to Cuban immigrant parents, he absorbed the city’s electro sound from an early age, embracing everything from freestyle to the catalogs of Schematic and Merck. His mother gave him the nickname Danny Daze, and he began spinning records at weddings before heading to all-night raves afterward. An arrest for ecstasy distribution led to several months in prison and two subsequent years of house arrest, during which he taught himself music production on cracked software beginning in 2004. He soon started performing at clubs and founded his first imprint, Omniamm, in 2005. Joining forces with brothers Joe and Matt Masurka, he formed the remix outfit DiscoTech, which handled major-label club remixes for artists including Britney Spears and Donna Summer, while also creating original material as Señor Stereo.

Following a handful of solo singles, Daze created the track “Your Everything,” blending Miami bass and new wave elements, in preparation for the 2011 Winter Music Conference. Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones both played the song in their sets, prompting Jones to issue it on his Hot Creations label. It swiftly turned into a club favorite, allowing Daze to launch his first international tour with a performance at London’s Fabric. Although crowds anticipated house selections, his own preference leaned toward electro. He joined forces with fellow Miami artist Maceo Plex for the 2013 EP Booty Jazz, released under the Underground Resistance-inspired alias Jupiter Jazz. Additional material soon appeared on Ellum Audio, Kompakt (including several volumes of the Speicher series), and Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic, most of it rooted in dark, driving techno and electro rather than house.

Daze established the Omnidisc label in 2015 and issued the EP Four, which included contributions from Drvg Cvltvre and 214; Miami followed in 2016. The 2019 releases comprised Pulmotor, a joint project with Irish electro producer DeFeKT, and the druggy solo EP El Cubano. Schematic put out the experimental EP Protocol 305 (along with the remix companion Protocol 305 Variables) in 2020. Binary, a split EP alongside Anthony Rother, surfaced on System 108 in 2021, while GT, recorded with Jonny from Space, arrived via Omnidisc in 2022.
