Biography
In the landscape of mainstream Spanish pop, David Civera has risen to prominence as a widely recognized figure thanks to his straightforward melodies and well-timed summer successes. Born in Teruel in 1979, he began exploring music early by learning both guitar and piano. His initial stage appearance came at the age of nine. At seventeen, after a short period studying computing, he joined the television competition Lluvia de Estrellas and delivered Enrique Iglesias' "Es una Experiencia Religiosa." Although victory eluded him, the exposure paved the way for further television work, including appearances on Canciones de Nuestra Vida and Un Siglo de Canciones. Around the same period he issued his independently produced first album, Hoy Como Ayer, a set of romantic ballads that attracted little attention.
Producer Alejandro Abad soon spotted the young performer and guided him through a demo recording of "Dile Que la Quiero," the track chosen to represent Spain at the Eurovision contest in Copenhaguen, where it placed sixth. That European showcase marked a decisive shift, prompting Civera to complete a full album also titled Dile Que la Quiero, which achieved substantial chart success. In 2002 he followed with En Cuerpo y Alma, an upbeat collection of lighthearted numbers highlighted by the hit "Que la Detengan"; the release earned platinum certification. A year later he tracked La Chiqui Big Band between Barcelona and Milan, releasing the popular lead single "Bye Bye" and the duet "Rosa y Espinas" with David Bisbal.
With Perdóname (2005), Civera stepped away from teen-focused material toward a more adult approach, shaping songs that blended Argentine tango influences with his commercial pop sensibility. The following year brought his fifth album, Ni el Primero, Ni el Último, which paired his signature mid-tempo numbers and heartfelt ballads with occasional experiments such as the pseudo-ranchera "El Orgullo y la Visa," sparked by a trip to Mexico. Outside his studio work he contributed "Quiero Ser Como Tú" to the soundtrack of El Libro de la Selva 2 and maintained a steady presence on various television programs and series. In 2007 he issued "No Bastará," an album drawing from Italian pop traditions and favoring a more acoustic, introspective tone.
