Flamenco-tinged pop act Andy & Lucas, formed by Andrés Morales and Lucas González, first crossed paths as childhood neighbors and companions in the Cadiz district of La Laguna. Having attended the same school beginning in first grade, the pair decided early in their friendship to start a musical outfit together. Morales took up songwriting at twelve and, four years afterward, began performing those pieces alongside González in local Cadiz bars. Their entry into the recording industry arrived another four years later when they issued the self-titled album Andy & Lucas under the guidance of Argentine producer Alejo Stivel; the project moved more than 200,000 copies and held the summit of the Spanish charts for several weeks. The single “Son de Amores” proved especially resonant, attaining double-platinum certification. Shortly afterward the longtime friends documented their inaugural large-scale show in Barcelona with the live DVD Viviendo un Sueno, an effort that earned them their first significant accolade, the Premio Onda for Best New Artist. In 2007 they returned with the studio album Ganas de Vivir, whose brighter pop direction secured placement on Billboard’s European Top 100. Their fourth collection, Con Los Pies en la Tierra, was helmed by veteran Spanish producer José Ramón Florez, whose prior credits include Fey, Hugo, and Sergio Rivero. The duo resurfaced in 2010 with Pido la Palabra, spotlighting guest vocalist Diana Navarro on the album’s titular centerpiece.
