Biography
Following struggles with depression and alcoholism that prompted his 2012 exit from Of Mice & Men, Shayley Bourget sought stability in his personal affairs. When the urge to make music returned, he began casual jamming sessions with drummer Raul Martinez, an encounter that unexpectedly sparked the formation of DayShell. The trio—completed by bassist Jordan Wooley—crafts a modernized fusion of Helmet and Deftones, pairing the abrasive weight of progressive-extreme textures with Bourget’s elevated clean vocals. That approach first surfaced on the single “Share with Me,” drawing the interest of Sumerian Records, which signed the band and issued its self-titled debut in 2013. Early in 2016 the group departed Sumerian for Spinefarm, the label that released the follow-up album Nexus that October.
