Emerging after 2000 as a leading voice in Cantopop, Denise Ho—known professionally as HOCC—rose to prominence following her win at the 1996 New Talent Singing Awards. Born May 10, 1977, in Hong Kong, the victory launched her entertainment career. In the ensuing years she performed as a backing singer on tours with Cantopop legend Anita Mui while also hosting television programs on TVB. Her first solo release appeared in 2001, and she achieved her initial breakthrough the next year via the single “Angelic Blue.” In 2005 the stage musical Butterfly Lovers and its accompanying album elevated her profile further by generating three chart-topping tracks. The year after, she presented her inaugural solo concert at Hong Kong Coliseum, a landmark occasion for any Cantopop performer.
