Hacken Lee, known for his work in Cantopop, first drew widespread attention during the opening years of the 1990s, above all through the popular track “Red Sun,” only to endure a stretch of limited artistic impact before earning renewed critical notice in the early 2000s. Born in Hong Kong on December 6, 1967, he launched his recording career in 1985 through a deal with PolyGram Records. A part in the 1988 TVB series Teenage No More boosted his profile, after which his music output steadily strengthened and reached its high point in 1992 with the self-penned hit “Red Sun.” That momentum proved short-lived, however, and PolyGram Records ended its association with him by the close of the decade. Returning via Universal Music after 2000, he made a notable impression by sharing the screen in the 2002 TVB drama Legal Entanglement while also recording its theme, “Loving You Unexpectedly.” A pair of concert-hall albums further added to his renewed visibility.
