Biography
Doubledrive first emerged in Atlanta, GA, during 1996 under the name MK Ultra, bringing a heavier rock sound to local audiences through its founding members Troy McLawhorn on guitar, Joshua Sattler on bass, Mike Froedge on drums, and Donnie Hamby handling vocals. Over the ensuing three years the band logged countless miles in its van, playing repeated shows across clubs throughout the Southeastern United States. Those relentless road trips built broad awareness of the group’s recurring appearances and earned it Atlanta’s “favorite metal/extreme” honor in 1998. The resulting buzz sparked a bidding war among labels that RCA ultimately won, leading to the release of Doubledrive’s debut full-length album, 1000 Yard Sale, in 1999.
