Biography
California singer/songwriter Dylan Hyde crafts pop shaped by the vocal approaches of Boyz II Men from the '90s alongside John Legend, Harry Connick, Jr., and Billy Joel. Born with congenital conditions that eliminated hearing in both ears, he underwent operations that restored only his right ear, leaving the left one permanently damaged. These obstacles failed to deter his musical path, which drew from an innate pull toward singing and dancing encouraged by his great-grandmother, mother, and grandfather, all of whom had performed in Las Vegas. Working as a self-taught pianist and guitarist, Hyde started composing songs in his bedroom and rehearsing alongside friends. At first he shared cover versions online, where his takes on tracks by Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, Miguel, and Jason Derulo built a small following. Universal Motown briefly signed him in 2013, issuing his debut EP, XO. He later shifted toward a brighter pop direction with the 2015 single "Sick of Your Love," leaning more toward Bieber than Bublé. Hyde followed with the island-flavored "Clearly" in 2017.
