Biography
Earthsuit comprises the five-piece rock ensemble of acoustic guitarist Dave Rumsey, keyboardist Paul Meany, bassist Roy Mitchell, drummer David "Hutch" Hutchison, and vocalist Adam LaClave. Their sound blends rap, rock, smooth lyrics, reggae chants, jazz, and pop into an expansive and inventive whole.
Meany and LaClave first shared stages in 1995 at Café Joel, the modest Bourbon Street coffeehouse in New Orleans. Rumsey and Mitchell soon completed the lineup, with Hutchison rounding it out shortly afterward. The group concentrated its ministry on local stages rather than extensive touring.
During a summer 1999 festival appearance, Sparrow Records encountered the band and offered a contract. Earthsuit then entered the studio to cut Kaleidoscope Superior, issuing the debut album in 2000. Songs such as “Against the Grain,” “Whitehorse,” “Said the Sun to the Shine,” and the standout single “One Time” deliver an unmistakable Christian message amid the rock and pop textures.
