Biography
Edward Ma launched his professional path in the late 1990s under the alias the Con Artist, well before adopting the moniker edIT as an indie hip-hop artist. While serving as resident DJ for Konkrete Jungle Los Angeles, he collaborated with Hive, Daddy Kev, James Tai, Busdriver, P.E.A.C.E., and Mikah 9, and maintained a recurring slot on Dublab Radio. Outside live sets, he produced and engineered tracks for Sole, Busdriver, Aloe Blacc, Emanon, and Dr. OOP, all credited under the Con Artist name. That alias was discontinued in 2003, supplanted by edIT as Ma finished work on his debut solo project.
Crying Over Pros for No Reason appeared in 2004 via the Planet-Mu imprint. Ma pressed onward without pause, generating remixes and mashups that expanded his profile across electronic music circles. Recognition extended beyond listeners and peers when Urb magazine placed him on its “Next 100” list in 2006. The follow-up album, Certified Air Raid Material, reached audiences in autumn 2007. Beyond edIT releases, Ma has supplied advertising music and jingles through Face the Music, placements that have surfaced in campaigns for Scion, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and Calvin Klein.
