Biography
East London's Eliza Rose has long worked as a radio and club DJ while establishing herself as a vocalist and producer whose style blends playfulness with swagger. After putting out a 2015 debut EP shaped by neo-soul and vocal jazz, she gained wider attention as a recording artist in the early 2020s through singles made with producers including Peaky Beats and Cody Currie. The empowering house track "B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All)," created with Interplanetary Criminal, first appeared on her own imprint before Warner acquired it once the song spread virally and anchored numerous festival sets. It went on to become the U.K.'s 1,400th number-one single and received platinum certification. A further success arrived in 2023 with the Calvin Harris collaboration "Body Moving."
Rose began her connection to music at age 15 by working at the renowned Flashback record store. Drawn to soul, jazz, and disco, she amassed vinyl specifically to support her DJ sets, while also pursuing vocal training and music-production courses. Her first release, the 2015 Moonshine EP, contained four original compositions plus a T-Pain cover. She joined the Rhythm Sister DJ collective and hosted shows on Rinse FM and Balamii that showcased funk, soul, and garage selections played on vinyl. In 2020 she contributed vocals to the limited lathe-cut Peaky Beats single "Into the Night," then issued more material with both Peaky Beats and Cody Currie the following year. She launched Rosebud Recordings and issued the jazzy R&B cuts "A Bloke Named Smokey" and "Mr. Showbiz," both produced by Palmer Eldritch, alongside club-oriented remixes. The two-part Plant Lovers EP likewise featured dubby downtempo pieces together with garage and jungle remixes.
The 2022 Shades of Red EP, recorded with Dublin's M4A4, appeared on Lobster Theremin. Rosebud also handled the solo single "Move to The" and the Interplanetary Criminal collaboration "B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All)." The latter became a standout at that year's Glastonbury Festival, turned into a TikTok phenomenon, and was subsequently licensed to Warner Records. It marked the first U.K. number-one single by a female DJ since Sonique's "Feel So Good" in 2000, reached the top spot in Ireland for six weeks, and earned platinum status in both the U.K. and Australia. The track earned a Brit Award nomination for Song of the Year, while Rose received an additional nomination for British Dance Act. Outside music, she authored the novel What Happens in Dreamland.
February 2023 brought the brisk garage single "Better Love." She followed it with "Pleasure Peak," recorded alongside house duo the Martinez Brothers, and the solo track "Take You There." A return to the U.K. Top 40 came via the Calvin Harris collaboration "Body Moving."
