Biography
The evolution of pop-punk has carried it well beyond the era when the Bay Area punk scene launched acts like Green Day and Operation Ivy, but the Oakland, California group Emily's Army continues to champion that original style. Brothers Max Becker and Cole Becker started the band in 2004 with their childhood friend Joey Armstrong, whose father is Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong; the name honors the Becker brothers' cousin Emily, who learned she had cystic fibrosis upon turning 15. Travis Neumann came aboard as second guitarist in 2009, setting the stage for a recording session the next year with Billie Joe Armstrong that produced the debut album Don't Be a Dick!, issued by the elder Armstrong's Adeline Records in 2011. Rise Records followed with the sophomore release Lost at Seventeen in the summer of 2013.
