Biography
Florian Kupfer, a German DJ and producer, crafts raw, emotive house and techno pieces frequently featuring booming kick drums, thick tape hiss, along with sparse yet poignant melodies and atmospheres. Born in Wiesbaden, the artist started out as a choirboy before immersing himself in techno, hip-hop, and industrial music. Exposure to a DJ set by outsider house figurehead Ron Morelli transformed his outlook on music entirely. Beginning in 2013, Kupfer issued material through Morelli’s influential L.I.E.S. (Long Island Electrical Systems) label and its Russian Torrent Versions imprint. His debut EP Lifetrax registered as an instant underground success, driven especially by the track “Feelin.” Additional singles and EPs followed, among them one-off collaborations with Shadowlust’s Lili Schulder under the UE LI moniker and with NGLY as Swere. Late 2014 brought a joint untitled EP with Willie Burns on Rush Hour’s No ‘Label’ imprint. The following year saw Kupfer’s I Feel You EP appear on Burns’ W.T. Records. Kupfer also entered Ninja Tune’s Technicolour sublabel catalog in 2015 via the Explora EP, with Unfinished arriving a year later as his second release on the imprint.
