Biography
In 2004, Ohio death metal merchants From the Shallows formed as a side project pulling members from Let It Die, the Dawning, and the Black Dahlia Murder. The next two years saw the band perform repeatedly across the Midwest, with heavy activity in Ohio and Michigan, before locking in the lineup of Steffan Howey on vocals, Joey Frost and Marco Mendoza on guitars, Jon Deering on bass, and David Rhoades on percussion. Rising interest eventually drew the attention of extreme metal label Tribunal Records, which offered the group a recording contract. The band tracked its debut album, Beyond the Unknown, at producer Joey Sturgis’s Foundation Recording studio, and the record surfaced in spring 2007. A lengthy tour with Killwhitneydead came next.
