Over hazy, atmospheric synths and beats, GASHI weaves lyrics that feel deeply personal and introspective. Early on, he moved fluidly between gritty rap verses and emotive, heartfelt singing, later settling into a moody fusion of pop and R&B across projects such as the 2020 full-length 1984 and its 2022 successor Elevators.

Born Labinot Gashi, he passed his early years across multiple African and European nations before settling in Brooklyn in the late '90s. Rap music became his pathway to learning English, which in turn sparked his decision to chase a music career. After leaving college, he began crafting a mixtape under the name Kid Gashi, which he later shortened to Gashi before adopting the stylized GASHI. Following the 2011 mixtape Last of a Rare Breed, he launched the group Moxy in 2012 while also issuing the single "Rocket." Subsequent mixtapes I'll Be Right with You (2013) and 4Play (2014) came next. GASHI's Stairs EP reached listeners via the Order Label in 2016. He also contributed twice to DJ Snake's Encore album, notably on "Oh Me Oh My," which featured Migos and Travis Scott. GASHI's 2017 single "Disrespectful" became his biggest success to date, accumulating millions of streams.

In the year that followed, he dropped singles such as "Creep on Me" with French Montana and DJ Snake. Throughout 2019 he released several more tracks, among them "My Year" alongside G-Eazy, "Roses," and "Safety" again featuring DJ Snake. That September, GASHI's self-titled debut album appeared on RCA Records. After joining Felix Jaehn on "Sicko" early in 2020, he put out his own track "Cabin Fever," with additional songs preceding the August arrival of 1984, an album that included appearances from Sting, G-Eazy, and Devault. The atmospheric trap-pop effort Elevators surfaced in 2022.
