Biography
Sheck Wes built his reputation on aggressive, unpredictable rhymes that drew early support from Travis Scott and Kanye West. After scoring a Top Ten, multi-platinum pop smash with “Mo Bamba” in 2017, the rapper and producer issued the Top 20 solo album Mudboy in 2018, appeared on Scott’s JackBoys project, and moved closer to a second solo LP through boisterous singles such as “LFG!” and “Pain!” in 2022.
Born Khadimou Rassoul Cheikh Fall in Harlem, the artist split his childhood between New York City and Milwaukee while beginning to make music. During high school in New York, basketball ranked as a primary activity until a fashion scout’s interest prompted him to skip a playoff contest and instead attend the Madison Square Garden presentation of the Yeezy Season 3 collection. Following a reset period in Senegal arranged by his mother over lifestyle concerns, Wes redirected his energy toward music and secured an Interscope-backed joint deal with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack and Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. labels.
His debut commercial singles, the late-2017 release “Mo Bamba”—titled after basketball player and friend Mohamed Bamba—and early-2018’s “Live Sheck Wes Die Sheck Wes,” surfaced on the official debut album Mudboy, which arrived in October 2018. Centered on gritty New York street experiences and built over ominous beats from producer Lunchbox, the set also contained “Gmail” and “Jiggy on the Shits,” the latter featuring verses in both English and Wolof to honor his Senegalese heritage. The LP reached number 17 on the Billboard 200. “Mo Bamba,” which peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, earned triple-platinum certification by the end of the following January. In 2019, Wes notably appeared on “Gang Gang,” the number 22 R&B/hip-hop hit from Travis Scott’s JackBoys.
Wes returned to solo work in November 2020 with “Rich One Day” and joined the Young Stoner Life compilation Slime Language 2 the next year, where he was featured on the single “GFU” shortly before signing to play professional basketball in France with Paris Basketball. In 2022 he appeared on FaZe Kaysan’s “MVP” and Dreamville’s “Stick,” while also releasing “LFG!” and “Pain!,” thereby extending his links to Cactus Jack and G.O.O.D.
