Biography
German neo-soul trio Glashaus first took shape in 2000, when producers Moses Pelham and Martin Haas began shaping what was intended as a solo debut for vocalist Cassandra Steen, already recognized from her earlier tenure with hip-hop outfit Freundeskreis. Creative chemistry among the three proved so decisive that the original solo concept was abandoned in favor of a genuine group endeavor, and after an extended studio period the unit released its inaugural single, Wenn Das Liebe Ist, in 2001. That track climbed to number five on the German pop charts; although the subsequent releases “Was Immer Es Ist,” “Ohne Dich,” and “Trost (Es Tut Weh)” did not replicate its performance, the self-titled debut album still accumulated thirty weeks on the charts while collecting three ECHO Award nominations. The follow-up Glashaus II (Jah Sound System) arrived in 2002 and yielded only the modest chart entry “Bald (Und Wir Sind Frei).” Three years later the trio returned with Drei, reclaiming commercial ground by entering the Top Five and issuing the single “Haltet Die Welt An,” which approached but did not reach the Top Ten.
