Biography
Goodbye Tomorrow, a drummerless quartet, merges its core emo foundation with expansive, atmospheric swells of dream pop in the vein of Sigur Rós, striking a balance between raw force and melodic delicacy. Their output occasionally suggests a more conventionally structured approach to the immersive post-rock textures associated with Explosions in the Sky and Do Make Say Think. Although an early version of the group assembled in Phoenix, AZ, in 2003, the lineup reached its definitive form only in 2006, when original members David Roat (bass and programming) and Josh Johnson (guitar) added singer and acoustic guitarist Travis Bryant, formerly of the Texas-based Christian emo band Terminal, along with guitarist and programmer Matt Grabe. The 2004 self-released demo Tied by Miles had featured the group’s initial vocalist Matthew Gilbert and drummer Josh Niles. After signing with Equal Vision Records (home to Coheed & Cambria and the Sound of Animals Fighting) in spring 2006, Goodbye Tomorrow issued a three-song self-titled EP that July; by early 2007 Austin Wilson had taken the drum chair.
