Biography
Helen Darling, once a performer of commercial jingles, encountered a receptive environment in Nashville once her supporting vocals for country material drew notice from Garth Brooks. She entered the world in Louisiana, grew up in Houston, and began singing at a young age, with her earliest recording made alongside the University of Texas choir. After finishing her studies she relocated to Chicago, where she supplied radio jingles through the first half of the 1990s, until encouragement from a friend led her to settle once more in Nashville. While circulating through Music City and landing intermittent assignments, she earned sufficient regard from Garth Brooks for him to feature her on the track “The Red Strokes” from In Pieces. She obtained her own recording deal in 1994 and issued a self-titled album for Decca the following year, with Brooks supplying backing vocals.
