Biography
Shelly Fairchild spent her childhood in the small town of Clinton, MS, immersed in a household where singing formed a daily family activity for everyone involved. Her first guitar arrived at age six, locking in an early determination to pursue a career as a country singer. Performances soon followed at school music gatherings, local community events, state fairs, and talent contests. At Mississippi College she concentrated on communications and theater while completing a minor in music. Area theater credits encompassed stage productions of Always Patsy Cline, Grease, and Godspell, and she toured nationally as part of the cast for the musical Beehive. The year 2001 brought a move to Nashville, where she anticipated that her fiery stage show, powerful blues-inflected voice, and rock & roll attitude would draw industry notice. Attention arrived, resulting in a recording agreement with Columbia Records Nashville. Late in 2004 the label issued her debut single, “You Don’t Lie Here Anymore,” co-written with Sonny LeMaire and Clay Mills, backed by another original, “Tiny Town.” Early the following year Columbia released her first album, Ride, helmed by veteran Buddy Cannon and guitarist Kenny Greenberg.
