Originating in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, in 2002, the German-language pop/rock outfit Herbstrock consists of Anna Müller on vocals and guitar, Sebastian Vogt on drums, Mathias "Duff" Dajeff on bass, and Thomas Eckhart on guitar. The group upholds indie rock principles even after securing a major-label deal and achieving commercial traction. Stylistic debts run to core 1990s alternative acts; they name the German bands Die Sterne and Tocotronic as primary influences, while their sound recalls the American bands Throwing Muses, Belly, and Velocity Girl. Breakthrough success reached Austria in 2007 via the major-label debut single "1-2-3." Key visibility arrived through the handysitcom Anna & Du—a downloadable situation comedy intended for viewing on handheld electronic devices—which aired for 40 daily episodes across May and June 2007. That platform lifted the June Universal Music Group release "1-2-3" to number 26 on the Austrian singles chart. A follow-up single, "Halt:mich," appeared in November, and the full-length album Ende:gut arrived in February 2008, landing inside the Top 40 on the Austrian albums chart.
