High Sunn serves as the creative vehicle for Justin Cheromiah of San Francisco, who began uploading garage rock-tinged home recordings under that moniker at age 14 back in 2014. Over the ensuing years his output evolved through dozens of tracks toward the cohesive lo-fi guitar pop that defined the project's inaugural studio album and first full-band effort, Missed Connections, issued in 2018.

Cheromiah's self-produced debut album, High Sunn, surfaced on Bandcamp during the middle of 2014. A consistent flow of singles, EPs, and LPs exploring shoegaze, punk, and melodic guitar pop followed, among them September 2015's Luv Songs for Whiners. Tristin Sovannarath supplied drums and percussion on that release and went on to contribute regularly to Cheromiah's work. One month later, The Okada Bedroom Sessions delivered a set of feedback-laden, distortion-heavy tracks described as "songs that were either rough drafts or thrown in the trash."

Further projects encompassed the April 2016 split EP Emotional sHits alongside childhood friends Junkie and, that July, Flower Funeral, which featured live drummer Joe Jensen and received cassette editions via Crafted Sounds in the U.S. and Galaxy Train Records in Japan. Z Tapes put out the 20-track Sequential Sakura collection that October. Another assortment of abandoned concepts and demos took shape as sorryidroppedyoufrommyanimelist; with mixing assistance from previous associate John Mello, even the less polished material revealed a shift toward tighter, melody-driven compositions.

High Sunn's initial studio recording, the Hopeless Romantic EP, arrived in May 2017 and also marked the project's first full-band session. Cheromiah was joined by Jensen on drums, lead guitarist Freddy Rivera, bassist Arianna Vazuez, and producer/engineer Dylan Wall. Working with the same personnel, the full-length studio debut Missed Connections came out on Pnk Slm in May 2018. Before year's end, the follow-up collaborative album and EP Haven's Gate were released.

Our Perception received a physical edition from the Spirit Goth cassette club in January 2019. High Sunn issued the love-themed L 4 U <3 EP independently the next month, after which Cleopatra put out COFFIN 3Y3S, also known as Coffin Eyes, that July.
