Biography
The Holy Mountain emerged from Glasgow, Scotland, as a thunderous rock outfit whose sound fuses raw psychedelia with heavy rock, propelled by epic guitar lines and relentless drive. Guitarist-vocalist Andy McGlone and drummer Pete Flett founded the group after crossing paths at the Captains Rest, a Glasgow pub and live-music spot. Their shared musical affinities led to the band's launch in late 2008 as a guitar-and-drums duo, its moniker taken from Alexandro Jodorowsky's cult film of the same name. Allan Stewart joined on bass in spring 2010, converting the lineup into a trio, and the members soon entered the studio to record their debut album, Earth Measures. The project remained unreleased until 2012, when Chemikal Underground Records issued it under a new agreement. The underground press greeted Earth Measures with strong praise, prompting the band to reconvene in 2013 for a follow-up that featured keyboard contributions from Graeme Smillie. That year brought the advance single "Luftwizard," which included a version of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" on its B-side, and the completed second album, Ancient Astronauts, arrived in spring 2014.
