Biography
The band Jex Thoth derives its name from its striking lead singer and channels influence from the heavy-metal textures of Black Sabbath as well as the vintage experimentalism of Amon Düül II. Central to the lineup are Jex Thoth, born Jessica Toth, and bassist James Jackson Toth, who directs the experimental collective Wooden Wand and is billed here as Grim Jim. The project first assembled under the name Totem and released an EP with that title before adopting the current moniker and commencing work on a full-length album. Guitarist Silas Paine and drummer Johnny Dee came aboard during those sessions, after which keyboardist Zodiac rounded out the roster. The resulting self-titled debut appeared in 2008 and presented a set of thudding, psychedelic acid rock.
