Emerging from London, Green Lung is a British heavy rock ensemble whose sound draws on doom, stoner, psych, and classic NWOBHM traditions. The group merges occult-rock theatrics, pastoral prog-folk textures, and Sabbath-worthy heaviness into a witchy brew that spans both past and future. Formed in 2017, the lineup consists of Joseph Guest on bass, Matt Wiseman on drums, Scott Black on guitar, Tom Templar on vocals, and John Wright on organ. Before issuing their debut EP Free the Witch in 2018, the band signed with the German independent label Kosmic Artifactz. Their well-received full-length Woodland Rites arrived the next year and drew the interest of Finland’s Svart, a doom specialist that swiftly brought Green Lung onto its roster. A 2021 appearance at Bloodstock Open Air preceded the release of Black Harvest, which earned further acclaim inside the heavy rock scene. Continuing to sharpen their pagan-doom metal style, the band unveiled its major-label debut, the Nuclear Blast-issued This Heathen Land, in 2023, taking cues from horror film soundtracks, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and regional folklore and mythology.
